Prina (Pyramid city)
Elf Home. Place built during The Chaos that kept the elves safe from the Wild magic that ran amok all across the known world. The elves, being a solitary race, gather here once every 100 years to mate - called by some ancient longing that they do not understand and an ancient spell on the place. They have no sentiment about the city, and it seems that they would not care if the place fell to ruin. To them, it is an ancient prison that once held all of their kind. True, it was to keep them safe, but it was a prison none the less. Some believe that all of the elves are cursed with Wanderlust.
The elves need for solitude seemed to be considered in the design of the place. The city is built in steps, and rises like a giant pyramid. The houses are small and separate, and all the windows face out the front so that the elves could look out and only see the view of the forest instead of houses and streets to create an illusion of isolation.
Some say it was created by a loving god or some other such powerful being, while others thinks the elves banded together to shape the place. It's origins are older than some land masses, and older than memory.
Other species care for the place more. It was the home of many who sought shelter throughout the years, it's magic calling to those fleeing danger into its embrace no matter where they came from. To them, it is the Saviour City, and many small cultures owe their survival to it.
As such, during the Age of Discovery and The Era of Empires, Prina has stood as a symbol of peace, hope and longing. Not many people make this place their permanent home, for it is mostly a relic and the magic of the place makes any sort of violence impossible (even justified violence). Most people seek to branch out and settle new homes once safety can be reached for their people.
However, some have chosen to stay in Prina since its first refugees arrived. They form its loose government which is all based around the care-taking and preservation of the city. They semi-worship the elves that are responsible for the place and they work hard to preserve the history and wonders of the place, even though the elves do not care. The time of 'gathering' is the most important to the Care-takers.
Only three elves, ancient beyond measure, reside in the city permanently. They keep the family registers in the library at the very top of the pyramid. They also, on the odd occasion where someone brings the bones or body of an elf to Prina in a mis-guided attempt to be thoughtful say a few words and allow the Care-takers to hold a 'funeral'. Elves do not have funerals normally, and cannot understand such things. One of these is, secretly, some kind of undead.
However, all of Prina's history is not sparkling. Gnomes sought to hide here, driven by chasing enemies and lured by the city's magic, during The Great War. It was a trap, and they were dragged out of the city by some of those inside. Those who forced the gnomes out tried to re-enter the city after the act and were re-burked by it, changed into monstrosities that killed the gnomes the city could not save. These monsters than fled into the forest and still reside there in the time of Empires.
It is also true that while the Care-takers do their best, there are hidden areas of the vast city that are hidden. It was designed to give the elves as much privacy as possible, and in doing so created hundreds of hidden passageways, vaults and other secrets that still wait to be discovered.
